Indigenous filmmaker - Dylan Newstead

With a lifelong passion for visual storytelling, Dylan Newstead, an Indigenous filmmaker from SC’IȺNEW Nation, brings a wealth of self-taught expertise and hands-on experience to every project. Since 2000, Dylan has immersed himself in the world of filmmaking, mastering tools like Adobe Premiere and After Effects through dedicated self-study.

His journey includes co-hosting and editing The Foolcast, a weekly filmmaking and photography podcast, where he hones his skills in diverse content editing and social media video creation. Dylan’s extensive portfolio also features a web series focused on urban news, weekly sketch comedy videos with “Skit for Brains,” and contributions to the “4 Villains” web series, showcasing his versatility in writing, shooting, and advanced editing, including special effects. He’s also crafted compelling promotional videos for clients like YEG Exotic and Brewers Choice Coffee.

Dylan worked extremely well to incorporate his technical expertise into our community video project, providing a creative touch that was also very appreciated. Dylan communicated well and delivered on time, which was a major bonus for a project that had many moving parts!

Dylan from Newstead Visuals shot a video for us. The quality of it was impressive. He has a talent when it comes to making videos that capture the moments as they were. The Bipolar Disorder Society of BC showcases mental health classroom presentations in schools with the purpose of creating an empathetic, understanding and acceptance amongst youth. Dylan Newstead produced video footage for us in 2011. Not only was he professional in his dealings with us but became quite supportive in what we were trying to accomplish with our work. He took due care and time to create a promotional video for our society which has been shown to teachers, potential donors and community partners. As Executive Director for the society, I am honoured to endorse and recommend Dylan Newstead as a leader in the production world and as an impacting presence in the media industry.

Leipzig Germany Documentary:

Leipzig Germany is a beautiful city located about 150km from Berlin. I was lucky to spend 6 days there filming a documentary with Josh Zed of Foolhardy Photography.
